Halyna Kvitka Kondracki
Halyna Kvitka Kondracki is the artistic director and conductor of Vesnivka Choir and Toronto Ukrainian Male Chamber Choir, having founded the former in 1965 and the latter in 2001. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music (B.Mus.), Kondracki actively supports Ukrainian Canadian composers and musicians by commissioning new works and promoting their music through performance.
Kondracki is active in the Canadian choral scene and had served as an adjudicator within the Ukrainian community and beyond. She has adjudicated at the annual Ukrainian Music Festival in Toronto (2009, 2011, 2014-2017, 2020), Choirs Ontario’s Leslie Bell Prize for Choral Conducting (2012) and the Hnatyshyn Foundation’s Ukrainian-Heritage Spirit and Future awards (2022).
The tireless contributions of Kondracki to Canada’s choral scene have earned her numerous honours, including Distinguished Service Awards from the Ontario Choral Federation (1996) and the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors (2003). In 2007, she was awarded the Shevchenko Medal by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) in recognition of her efforts to promote Ukrainian choral music in Canada. The Ukrainian World Congress presented her with the Commemorative Medal in 2015 for her outstanding contribution in popularizing the creative legacy of Taras Shevchenko beyond the borders of Ukraine. Most recently, in 2025, she received the Markian Ochrymowych Humanitarian Award from Ukrainian Canadian Social Services - Toronto, honouring her exceptional dedication over a 60-year career to preserving and advancing the resilient spirit of the Ukrainian language through choral composition and song.
In addition to her conducting career, Kondracki has played an influential role in fostering Ukrainian Canadian arts more broadly. She spearheaded the creation of the Ukrainian Canadian National Arts Council (now known as the Ukrainian Canadian Arts Network) under the auspices of the UCC, and remains a member of the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors (ACCC).
