Oh, my green hilltops
Oh, my green hilltops | Ой верше мій, верше | Oj vershe mij, vershe
Arranger: Mykhailo Haivoronskyj | Михайло Гайворонський
The words to this well-known folk song are in the Lemko dialect, yet they reflect a common thread in Ukrainian folk songs that tell the melancholy story of unrequited love. This is arranged for women's voices by Mykhailo Haivoronskyj. Lemkos are one of several small ethnic Ukrainian sub-groups inhabiting the Carpathian Mountains. Their spoken language, which is uncodified, has been variously described as a language in its own right.
Vesnivka's archives contain many Lemko songs. These rhythmical pieces, often performed with folk instruments, have been favourites of Vesnivka's audiences over the years.
