This piece was written by Mykola Lysenko, known as the Father of Ukrainian Music. He was a prominent figure in Ukrainian music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Among his works were choral pieces written on folk-based themes. This is an example of one of his folk-based compositions written using barcarolle style, in a manner that evokes the undulating rhythms of a boat on water.
This popular classical piece has been performed by Vesnivka on numerous occasions throughout the years.
